01 — THE ARTIST

Anita Tortorici was born in the Bronx, New York City, and started painting at the age of four. She studied at the School of Art and Design and Pratt Institute in New York, where she built a foundation in precise line, structure, form and color — and later earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts at California State University, San Jose.

She works entirely in watercolors, offering a deep examination of the natural world: vibrant color offset by delicate washes, positive and negative space used to create a dramatic feeling of movement. Her style, refined over decades across New York, Greece, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia, the Philippines and Northern California — where she now lives — gives the natural world a fresh, elegant, almost microscopic interpretation.

03 — THE CHALLENGE

An artist with a 42-year, four-continent exhibition history and a decades-refined watercolor practice needed a site that could hold all of it without turning into a scrolling résumé. It had to read like a quiet gallery walk-through, not a template portfolio grid — letting each piece and each exhibition breathe the way the watercolors themselves do.

It also had to work as a living archive: a growing body of work that needs room to expand, a record spanning decades and four continents that needed a legible structure instead of a wall of text, and a press/media section that could hold video and print coverage without cluttering the rest of the site.

04 — WHAT WAS BUILT

05 — THE APPROACH

The palette came from the work itself, not a brand exercise — a quiet sage green and near-black against warm paper tones, echoing the muted washes and organic color she paints in rather than competing with them.

Typography follows the same logic: Cormorant Garamond for display headings gives the site a literary, gallery-catalogue feel, while Instrument Sans keeps body copy calm and easy to read.

Rather than one long scrolling homepage, four decades of history got their own dedicated pages — Biography, Recent Works, Exhibitions, Media — so a visitor can go as deep as they want without every page competing for the same attention.

DESIGN FEEL

Gallery-quiet and considered. Sage green ground, paper-white breath, near-black for definition. Watercolor-led — the art carries the color, the UI stays out of the way.

HAVE A BODY OF WORK THAT DESERVES A PROPER HOME?

Artists, galleries, and creative practices need sites that let the work speak first. Strategy-led builds. One developer, end-to-end.
